Ameren
Ameren Missouri, organized in 1902 and formerly known as the Union Electric Company of Missouri, is an electric and gas power utility serving parts of Missouri and Illinois. Today, Ameren has nine power plants and serves 1.2 million electric customers and 110,000 gas customers.
Ameren offers a suite of energy efficiency programs and rebates to assist their customers in saving energy and money.
Programs
Peak Time Savings is a program the reduces energy burden for the utility company during high demands of electricity (May-September). When a customer enrolls, the home thermostat is adjusted slightly during high demand events when energy prices are higher than usual. Ameren anticipates these events and pre-cools the home accordingly. A customer can always opt out of our events. This program is for those with smart thermostats. Click HERE to learn more.

On-bill financing programs like Pay As You Save® (PAYS) create opportunities for customers to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and pay the costs back to the utility over time on their monthly electric bill. This is done with the savings exceeding the monthly payments, resulting in a net reduction of the member’s bill. PAYS helps Ameren customers make energy efficient upgrades to homes with little or no upfront cost. A certified contractor assess the home and determines if there are energy-efficiency upgrades that will meet the PAYS eligibility criteria.
Example improvements include: LED Light Bulbs, Duct Repair, Home Insulation Improvement, New HVAC Systems, Air Sealing, Hot Water Pipe Wrap
This program was created to help income-eligible homeowners, renters, and housing organizations lower their energy bills by offering a home energy assessment and installing energy-saving products. These products may include:
- HVAC upgrades
- Efficient Showerheads and Faucet Aerators
- ENERGY STAR® Appliances
- LED Lighting
- Building Insulation
To qualify, participants need to meet ONE of the following income requirements:
- Participation in a federal, state, or local subsidized housing program.
- Proof of resident income levels at or below 80% of area median income (AMI) or 200% of federal poverty level.
- Fall within a census tract included on Company’s list of eligible low-income census tracts.
Rebates & Incentives
Ameren offers various rebates for HVACs, heat pumps, central air and more. These rebates are valid for installs between January 1st and December 31st 2023.
Ameren’s online energy product marketplace offers a range of energy efficient products for both homeowners and renters. Save up to 80% of items such as smart thermostats, LED bulbs, and smart home products.
Smart Thermostats are an excellent tool to help save energy and money by allowing homeowners the most control over the heating and cooling of their home. Ameren offers a $100 rebate for select ENERGY STAR ® certified models.
Often times standard water heaters are one of the more inefficient appliances in a home and account for nearly 18% of home energy costs. However, heat pump water heaters are highly efficient because they don’t waste time burning gas to heat water. Instead, they take existing heat in the air and transfer it to the water.
Ameren offers $550 cash back and there is a federal tax credit of 30% of the total cost of the project (up to $2,000). A heat pump water heater can save a household of four approximately $470 per year on electric bills when compared to a standard electric water heater.
